For twenty-four years, “Shaman” Ltd. has been engaged in the installation, design, manufacture, repair and many other related works of medium voltage power pole switches. In our development work, we decided to use the silicone products of Midsun Group, Inc. for our bird protection solutions. When looking for a solution, we had to meet high standards for protection such as weather resistance, UV resistance, easy and quick installation, fire and arc resistance, minimum 25 kV insulation, long life, flexibility and shape retention.

In terms of the practical number of units, the silicone products of Midsun Group, Inc. have been successfully used in hundreds of locations on the medium voltage network in Hungary. Among others, in the Hortobágy National Park, the East Mecsek Landscape Protection Area, the Danube-Drava National Park, the Fertő-Hanság Landscape Protection Area, Aggtelek National Park, as well as on TMOK equipment, backbone disconnectors, voltage transformers, pole transformers of many solar power plants. E.ON Nord-dunántúli Áramhálózati Zrt. is replacing nearly 1,000 old pole switches. The primary outlets of the new devices are fitted with silicone caps designed and manufactured by “Shaman” Ltd. There have been no short-circuits caused by birds or other wild animals on the protected devices. The switches operate safely, which is a win-win situation, as wildlife can move freely while the power supply is maintained. The use of these silicone devices on newly and/or already installed TMOKs (telemechanical pole switches), OTRs (pole transformers) greatly reduces the number of customer outages and costly repairs to equipment.
